Buddhism is a diverse body of teachings based on the original teachings of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha. The basis of Buddhism and the foundation of all Buddhist practice is the noble eightfold path. This eightfold path consists of Right View, Right Thought, Morality, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Meditation, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Contemplation. Through the practice of these principles, the Buddhist attempts to purify the mind so that it can experience its original nature, which is bliss and freedom.
Most of the Buddhist teachings also express the idea of working for the liberation of all sentient beings, so that all may experience the original primordial state of bliss and get off the wheel of continuous rebirth and suffering through attachment to the limitations of a strictly materialistic world view.
